Creative COW, Discrete Edit*ors, And Crusty Old Editors

Google Cache Framegrab of the Mast-head of Old Crusties

edit: the post that’s been described in private emails to me as, “right on the money, but I hope Ron doesn’t see it” has been pulled. I slept on it. Clever googlers might try google cache but let it go.

Here’s the deal: it’s not worth it. I like Ron and the COW.

Ron at the COW: “Take some time off. Please don’t take your business regrets out on your volunteers.

I remain sorry for your loss”.

Rick Dolishny

If you see this awesome example you know what I mean. I guarantee it would be the short-lived editor's hit of youtube for like 20 minutes.—Rick DolishnyDiscrete Editors COW Leaderwww.thecreativeprocess.caRespond to this post Return to posts index Re: best thing about editby Rick Dolishny on Aug 12, 2008 at 1:14:53 am… and of course the new edit system will be called "mojave" ;)http://www.mojaveexperiment.com/—Rick DolishnyDiscrete Editors COW Leaderwww.thecreativeprocess.caRespond to this post Return to posts index Re: best thing about editby Ron Shook on Aug 12, 2008 at 7:04:38 amRick,[Rick Dolishny] "what would be the key sell points"Nice list. I'll add a few more:–Comprehensive, accurate time-code display, usage and I/O.–Superb handling of time-code breaks on source material.–Dual track stereo or mono source audio during capture.–Comprehensive insert/over-record editing structure.–In and out keyframes on all clips placed on the timeline.Ron ShookShoulder-High Eye ProductionsCreativeCOW Forum Host for Discreet edit*Respond to this post Return to posts index Wondertouch particleIllusion Re: best thing about editby Rick Dolishny on Aug 12, 2008 at 4:42:30 pmAh only the grey beards would find these features valuable, but they were in fact incredibly valuable. The point here is that we edit*ors thought nothing of working with the kinds of large projects that Dave descibes while the competition had to break it down, and increasingly has to all the more and we weren't working with blazingly fast dual quad cores. I used the graphic track and manually built the movement (it didn't have to be that accurate). There were about 9 different VP heads, back to back, moving pretty rapidly on surfer bodies. The entire thing played in real-time, didn't even render it, not even to play it out to tape.I'm still editing on Edit 6.0 on T-2000 occasionaly, at one place. • What’s up with that epic comment?I had a thread going where we all round-tabled a discussion about what made this old system great. In fact, I went so far to suggest that some intern might find this list and think we were joking; it’s an impressive list. But Ron deleted it so it’s never going to be found again… until now.I never had an opportunity to try Google cache until now, and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help out Discreet users everywhere.
